Wild Pacific Trail, Ucluelet BC
The Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet BC is a must-see during your time in Ucluelet or Tofino and the Pacific Rim National park.
Ucluelet's Wild Pacific Trail is a family friendly coastal trail through old growth forests wth panoramic ocean views.
For a short walk, try the 2km loop in He-Tin-Kis Park, with trailhead, near Terrace Beach. To access this trail, drive through Ucluelet along Peninsula road, and continue on through residential area. Right after you've driven through town you'll find a small free-parking gravel parking lot with a He-Tin-Kis Park sign. You can pick up flyers about the whole Wild Pacific Trail at this trailhead, or, get one at the Info Center at the junction between Tofino and Ucluelet when you first arrive on the coast during your drive in.
For the more serious hikers, spend the whole day travelling an 8km coastal section of the Wild Pacific trail. Ideally you'd have two cars and be able to park at each trailhead for the 8km long section of the Wild Pacific Trail.
If you're a mountain biker please don't ride on these trails. There aren't really any good mountain biking trails in Ucluelet or Tofino as most of the tourist trail are for hiking and walking only. In fact, cyclists regularly take their life into their hands when they cycle the Pacific Rim Highway anywhere between Ucluelet and Tofino. The highway is very hilly filled with blind corners, and distinct lack of bike lanes. Mix that with first-time-rental-motorhome drivers and tourists who are used to driving on the other side of the road, and young impatient locals with every road curve memorized and confidence to drive 30km above the posted speed limits and you've got a recipe for a less-than-safe road-biking experience.
Perfect for storm watching, photography and beach combing, the Wild Pacific Trail is a beautiful trail that meanders through old growth forests and along the rugged coastline.
